Simple Can You Stain Butcher Block
For a longer wearing surface stains with finishing agents are best as they form a coating on top of the wood.

The stain will give its first line of protection but you will need to seal it often so you dont damage the stain. Seal with at least three coats of a water based polyurethane. Also can you stain wood black.
I do NOT recommend using water-based polyurethane on butcherblock countertopsespecially if your butcherblock is on your main countertops where your sink is located. Butcher block can be found at most local hardware stores prefabricated. Protects interior wood surfaces such as butcher blocks cutting boards salad bowls and more.
The stain will go on much more evenly and the grain blended in more with the rest of the wood. Sand the wood before staining then select a wood stain and apply at least 2 coats. Once dry and overcoated it is non-toxic as is any finish that is fully cured.
Pour an excess of oil onto the butcher block and let it soak into every corner of the wood. If you are starting with fresh butcher block not a slab that is being refinished you wont need the coarse grit sandpaper listed here. While your countertop is brand new this will need to be redone frequently but a broken-in butcher block needs new mineral oil only every month or so.
